Pope Leo has embarked on a lengthy pastoral journey abroad, as the Pope’s Latin
America trip gets underway just weeks after the pontiff underwent surgery for lung
cancer.

The extensive regional tour comes shortly after a medical procedure last month in
which doctors removed part of Pope Leo’s lung. Despite the major operation and the
demands of international travel, the pontiff has moved forward with his scheduled
engagements across the southern hemisphere.

## Key Stops on the Pope’s Latin America Trip

The multi-nation itinerary includes visits to Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru. Across
all three countries, the trip represents a major undertaking requiring significant
stamina following his recent hospitalization.

The schedule will bring the pontiff to various communities and church gatherings
in each destination, marking one of his most prominent foreign journeys in recent
months.

## Recovery and Resumption of Papal Duties

The journey highlights Pope Leo’s rapid return to global activity following last
month’s surgical intervention. Having part of a lung removed is a substantial health
event, making his decision to embark on a lengthy overseas voyage particularly notable.

As Pope Leo travels through Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru, his health and public
appearances will remain in focus, signaling an active resumption of his international
leadership.
