SpaceX shares experienced a sharp drop in early trading on Friday as technology
and artificial intelligence equities faced heavy selling pressure. The downturn
follows election results in the United States midterms, which raised investor concerns
over increased regulatory scrutiny on infrastructure supporting artificial intelligence.

## Market Reaction to Midterm Election Results

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite index fell more than 5% during early market activity,
opening at its lowest level in more than two months. Investor sentiment shifted
rapidly after Democratic candidates secured victories in several critical states,
notably Texas, which hosts significant digital infrastructure.

Texas governor-elect Gina Hinojosa ran a campaign focused on restricting data centres,
pledging to enact a moratorium on new facility construction. The outcome has raised
questions about future expansion plans for energy-intensive computing hubs across
key jurisdictions.

## Impact on Elon Musk Companies and SpaceX Shares

Elon Musk had directed substantial financial support toward conservative candidates
ahead of the vote, spending nearly $450 million on Republican campaigns. This included
at least $45 million allocated to Ken Paxton’s Texas Senate race. Despite these
contributions, Texas flipped to Democratic control.

Following the political shift, SpaceX shares fell by more than 7% in early Friday
trading. Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla, also led by Musk, saw its valuation
tumble, with shares dropping more than 9% as part of the broader market retreat.

## Semiconductor and Chipmaker Losses Mount

Chipmakers powering artificial intelligence operations bore heavy losses throughout
the week. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index decreased by more than 13%, reflecting
broad pressure across the hardware supply chain.

Advanced Micro Devices dropped nearly 17% across a five-day span, while Micron experienced
a plunge of more than 20%. Intel shares declined by more than 18% over the same
five-day window, and Nvidia saw its stock drop by over 10%.

## Tech Executives Acknowledge Community Concerns

Industry leaders expressed surprise at the political pushback against technological
infrastructure during the recent vote. Several executives gathered at the Wall Street
Journal Tech conference in Napa, California, where they discussed the need for better
outreach.

OpenAI co-founder and president Greg Brockman noted that tech firms must rethink
how they engage local populations when developing heavy computing assets outside
traditional tech hubs.

“A lot of our shift over the course of this year has really been to realise that
from San Francisco trying to build infrastructure in Texas, Georgia, and other places,
you can’t just tweet and say: ‘This is going to be good.’ You need to be in those
communities,” Brockman said at the event.

Meta president Dina Powell McCormick echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that technology
firms must better communicate the societal value of artificial intelligence.

“I think we need to double and triple down on telling the story,” McCormick said
during the conference.

## Broader AI Market Jitters and Upcoming Listings

Beyond election outcomes, investor sentiment has been dampened by worries that artificial
intelligence equities may be experiencing an asset bubble poised for a market correction.
Additional corporate developments have reinforced caution among traders.

Alphabet shares dropped to a six-month low after Google revealed that its automated
artificial intelligence search summaries were negatively impacting advertising revenue.
Meanwhile, artificial intelligence startup Anthropic released a 355-page initial
public offering prospectus containing previously confidential business metrics,
preparing to become the first pure-play artificial intelligence firm to enter public
markets. Globally, capital movements continue despite the volatility, with India
preparing its second mega initial public offering within a month, aiming to raise
$3.2 billion amid subdued stock market conditions.
