# Fox News Dominates Ratings as ‘The Five’ Retains Title as Most-Watched Cable News Show

Fox News Channel maintained its command over the television landscape as its signature
roundtable program, _The Five_, officially retained its standing as the **most-watched
cable news show**. Nielsen ratings data highlights the network’s sustained competitive
edge over rivals MSNBC and CNN across both total day and primetime viewing.

Airing at 5 p.m. Eastern, the hour-long panel program regularly surpasses traditional
primetime programming, defying long-standing television industry norms that typically
favor evening time slots for peak audiences.

## Strong Viewership Keeps ‘The Five’ on Top of Cable Rankings

The continued success of _The Five_ marks an unusual milestone in modern television
broadcasting. Historically, programs airing in the 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. primetime block
command the largest audiences in cable television. However, the five-host roundtable
has consistently broken that mold, capturing several million daily viewers and outpacing
high-profile late-evening offerings across all networks.

Featuring a rotation of co-hosts including Greg Gutfeld, Dana Perino, Jesse Watters,
and Judge Jeanine Pirro, alongside alternating liberal commentators such as Harold
Ford Jr. and Jessica Tarlov, the show delivers fast-paced debate on current events,
politics, and cultural issues. Analysts attribute its durable audience appeal to
its conversational, ensemble format, which blends political commentary with casual,
unscripted discourse.

## Fox News Outpaces Rivals in Total Day and Primetime

Beyond the success of its 5 p.m. powerhouse, Fox News Channel posted widespread
audience advantages across the board. The network regularly swept the top five most-
viewed programs in cable news, with shows like _Jesse Watters Primetime_, _Hannity_,
and _Gutfeld!_ drawing substantial numbers.

Meanwhile, MSNBC held on to second place in overall cable news viewership, largely
buoyed by its weekday evening opinion lineup. CNN continued to face headwinds, remaining
third overall in total viewers while seeking new programming strategies to rebuild
its daytime and primetime engagement.

In the key 25-54 demographic most valued by advertisers, Fox News also maintained
a persistent lead, preserving double-digit advantages over its cable news competitors
in daytime and primetime metrics.

## Key Drivers Behind the Network’s Momentum

Industry observers note that steady viewer habits play a decisive role in television
ratings. While competitors have frequently revamped daytime and evening schedules
in recent years, Fox News has emphasized stability across its core lineup.

The network’s dominance has also been amplified by a relentless news cycle driven
by federal elections, congressional debates, and major international conflicts.
Live news consumers frequently gravitate toward established commentary panels during
breaking news periods, reinforcing the daily audience base for daytime programming.

## What Lies Ahead for Cable News

As media companies navigate cord-cutting and the migration of news consumption toward
streaming platforms, legacy networks face ongoing pressure to maintain live linear
audiences. Despite these broader shifts, live commentary and cable news analysis
remain among the most durable genres on pay-TV.

With upcoming election cycles and heightened political engagement on the horizon,
industry executives will closely monitor whether rival networks can close the gap
or if Fox News and its flagship panel will maintain their firm grip as the home
of the **most-watched cable news show**.
